While visitors and residents of Shanghai still have to get out of the city to get to the seaside, they don’t have to go far to get to the beach. Formerly called Sunny Beach, Rico Rico Beach is a stretch of clean sand along the Huangpu River with rentable chairs for tanning near a number of restaurants and bars. While the river is far from swimmable, inflatable pools and squirt guns sometimes make appearances and developers have plans for future wading pools.
Part of the Cool Docks development area, the strip of sand at the southern end of the Bund looking out at Shanghai’s famous Pudong skyline didn’t get much attention until tapas bar Rico Rico took over and started holding events (along with local eventsmiths Ice Cream Truck). Keep an eye out for the next Shanghai beach party.
