The remote location of this vast leafy park, tucked away right up against the river in northern Yangpu district, doesn’t stop the crowds descending at weekends. But even then it’s possible to lose yourself among the trees like nowhere else in the city.
Plenty of people come here to socialize: to rent one of the outdoor barbecues, try their hand at horseriding, climb aboard the rollercoasters. It’s real charm, though, can be found when you get off the beaten path, when you start pushing your way through the bamboo forest, and find a quiet spot beside a stream.
One way to really make the most of the place is to stay overnight. A number of cabins are available for rent, for 400 RMB a night. Call (021) 6532-1296 to book. You can check in from 6pm and don’t have to leave until noon the following day. Best of all you have access to the park after everyone else has left.
