A mecca for local Chinese shoppers and bargain-hunting expats alike, Qipu Lu is not for the faint-hearted.
Both sides of the street, where Qipu Lu meets Henan Lu, are home to several floors’ worth of some of the best deals in town. This is where many of the small boutiques you see elsewhere get their stock and it is choc-full of clothing, bags, shoes, accessories and jewelry, all at rock bottom prices.
The quality is varied though much of it comes from “night runs” by factories producing the same goods for export. Be warned, it’s incredibly busy (try to avoid the weekends), disorganized, and there are plenty of touts all keen to relieve you of your cash but if you can handle it, the rewards are plentiful.
As a rule, you won’t be able to try on the clothes so be sure to know your Chinese size in advance. Shoes and bags are a great buy here with prices from around RMB 30—be sure to brush up on bargaining in China before you go!
