Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena

Completed in 2005, Qizhong Arena is 15,000-seat stadium, best known for a retractable roof which is intended to resemble a magnolia when opened (and does, in a rather Autobot sense).

Built specifically for the Shanghai Masters, Qizhong Arena now hosts the Shanghai ATP Masters tournament, held annually in October, along with other occasional sporting events including basketball, gymnastics and ping-pong.
Surrounded by some 80 hectares of land–a not unattractive combination of greenery, parking lot and access roads–the arena holds up to 15,000 spectators.
The far southwestern Minhang location doesn’t permit easy or quick access and there’s really nothing to do after an event but get cab or bus (along with a few thousand other people) back to the city, but world-class sports in a brand-new facility full of Chinese sports fans who still often seem to have a kind of sweet high-school crush on sports like tennis that are relatively new to the Middle Kingdom make the long haul well worth it.
